Eagle Electric Wins the Nicholson Challenge
The Nicholson Challenge Cup has returned! The
once R/C trophy has now resurfaced for the Casper-Prop series. Race Directors
and co-hosts Don Nicholson and Nancy Spanich provided a tremendous atmosphere
for this event. Food, Beer and Beer (did I mention beer?) were sampled by many
members and guests of Unlimiteds Detroit. Guests included current and former
Unlimited Hydroplane drivers Mark Weber, Tom D'Eath and Joe Tate. It was a GREAT
time.
The story of the race was, once again, the trailer boat as the Miss Eagle Electric,
owned by Scott Dunn, found clean water and blew by the competition to win the
Final Heat. Two of the leading contenders, Mariner Too and Hawaii Kai II, took
on too much water while navigating through a crowded first corner. That allowed
the Screamin' Eagle to sneak through on the inside...and never looked back!
The preliminary heats were action packed and included the Thunderbolt spinning
out the Pride of Pay 'N Pak right at the finish of Heat 1C! We even had a 3-way
photo finish in the Consolation Heat. The judges reviewed the video tape and
the bribe money and determined that the winner was Pride of Pay 'N Pak!
Many thanks for those who donated money to become guest crew chief's for the
event. The donations helped offset the costs of the party and is very much appreciated.
Also, a VERY special thank you to our hosts Don Nicholson and Nancy Spanich
for a very fun evening.
